Surviving Halloween

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

The kick off for the Holiday Season has begun, did everyone survive Halloween?  I did, but just barely I swear. I think unless you come from a big family, like I do you never really understand the stress that comes with every Holiday, including this simple Halloween one.

I am the 9th child of 11 and when you come from a family that size it’s like everything is a major event. Not to say that that’s always a bad thing, I think it taught me through the years to be a little more social than most, because your always around so many people how can you not be social, right?  There’s also, like I said, a lot of stress involved too. It’s very stressful  trying to make so many people happy, always trying to do for one person but not make someone else feel like they are less important.  This is what goes on year after year and yesterday was no exception. My family has deemed me the “Queen of Halloween”, I’m the one they all come to for costumes, make-up, making treats ext. I love the happiness it brings but the hate the anxiety that comes with it, those come hand in hand every year…stress and anxiety. But I tell you, once 5:30 hits and the little trick or treaters are on thier way a crazy relaxing calmness waves over me and I think “I Love This Job”

Ok now before I end this I wanted to add this little shout out to my 78yr old mom. She is still passing out the candy, even though she can barely get up on her own and is very slow moving.  She was quite funny to watch, every time she’d hear “Trick or Treat” she would promptly shout back little things like “We Don’t Want Any” or “Go Away” I am not sure a lot of the kids knew she was kidding but it was still so funny to see.  At least she still has a sense of humor, idk if I would after as many kids came to her door, we kept a count and she had about 200 to 250 kids this year come to her door.

Another successful Halloween has come to an end, bring on Thanksgving !
